Background:
David H. Chae, Sc.D., is currently a Robert Wood Johnson Heath and Society Scholar at the University of California, Berkeley, and University of California, San Francisco site. Broadly, his professional goals are to make contributions to research on racial/ethnic disparities in health and social determinants of intra- and inter-group patterns in health. More specifically, his research interests focus on racism, structural and interpersonal forms of discrimination, and racial/ethnic identity as determinants of health. His dissertation examined the influence of unfair treatment, racial/ethnic discrimination, and ethnic identification in relation to substance use outcomes among Asian Americans. Dr. Chae is currently interested in psychobiological stress mechanisms involved in the embodiment of social hazards, and is the principal investigator of a study examining associations between racial discrimination, racial identity, and cardiovascular health outcomes among African Americans.
