Background:
David Rehkopf is a social epidemiologist whose research interest is examining the links between social inequalities and disparities in health, with a particular focus on the biological mechanisms through which socioeconomic exposures over the life course results in risk of cardiovascular disease. He is also interested in the social determinants of childhood growth and development, and the extent to which these impact health in later life. David’s dissertation work examined the non-linear impacts of household income on cause-specific mortality, risk factors for cardiovascular disease and childhood growth. As a Health & Society Scholar, he is interested in applying the methodologies of causal inference and structural models to the study of how social experience becomes embodied in populations as patterns of health and disease. He received an MPH in Epidemiology/Biostatistics from UC Berkeley (2001), and a doctorate from the department of Society, Human Development and Health at the Harvard School of Public Health (2006).
