Background:
Patrick M. Krueger studies the social stratification of health, with a focus on understanding the mechanisms that lead to race/ethnic, sex, and socioeconomic disparities in health over the life-course. Specifically, he examines how individuals convert social, cultural, and economic resources into health lifestyles; how family and neighborhood contexts shape health and mortality outcomes; and how people perceive and practice health lifestyles in their daily lives. He earned his Ph.D. in sociology from the University of Colorado and his B.A. in sociology and psychology from Aquinas College in Grand Rapids, MI. As of July 2006, he is an assistant professor at the University of Texas School of Public Health at Houston and as a Faculty Research Associate at the Population Research Center at the University of Texas at Austin.
