Background:
José A. Pagán is an economist whose research focuses on the population health consequences and community effects of uninsurance, and the impact of health status on employment and productivity. His research interests also include the economics of immigration and immigrant health. He received B.S. and M.A. degrees in mathematics and economics from The Ohio State University and a Ph.D. in economics from The University of New Mexico. He has been a Fulbright Scholar in Mexico, a Faculty Fellow at the U.S. Navy Personnel Research and Development Center in San Diego, CA, a consultant for the World Bank, and the first Director of the Center for Border Economic Studies at The University of Texas-Pan American. He is an associate professor of economics (on leave) at The University of Texas-Pan American and he is currently a Research Associate at the Penn Population Aging Research Center.
